Sportzbeat was first published in January 1999 and has since become an extremely popular approx six monthly publication. Along with the recent addition of our complimentary website, Sportzbeat is a unique magazine aiming to promote sporting activities within the law enforcement communities of NZ and Australasia. The content of the magazine comprises of a balance of editorials and photos from police sports teams and individuals from all over New Zealand, together with entry forms, events programs, all social sports and advance details looking ahead six months or more and is an indispensable resource for law enforcement sports/games participants and spectators.

Distributed free nationally through New Zealand including an individual database, along with a growing audience in Australia, Sportzbeat generates advertising prospects for the presentation of professional services in a variety of areas and welcomes all businesses and does not discriminate. For example, customers traveling frequently to and from New Zealand and overseas, who require accommodation, travel and car-hire services; business and investment opportunities can be of great interest to members with extra capital and are thinking of leaving or retiring from the police force or "perfing". Combined with our website, it is an excellent opportunity for reaching prospective customers.

We were originally approached to do the police sporting magazine in 1999 by The Police Council of Sport who approved the magazine (see below original paperwork) and were even approved the police logo to use. (Australian police also have a police sporting magazine each per State, independently owned)

We were also asked to "donate" a amount of $1500 per issue. On further discussions, due to the fact that The Police Council of Sport could not tell us or guarantee that the money would directly be given back and used for encouraging police sport and its' members, we declined the offer and kept it as an independent magazine and believe this was the correct approach for us.

They also wanted to impose restrictions on our advertisers and we believe that this may cause corruption (as police are meant to be not seen as supporting one business). We welcome all advertisers on an equal level.

Over the years we have put back into police sport, out of our own profits money, trophies, prizes and supported members by way of entry to the Police Games, both in Australia and The World Police Games. We have also organized products for team events, with the help of Gillette and other organizations in our own time.

We have noticed recently that the Council of Sport registered the website name policesport.org.nz which obviously is very much identical to our registered name of 11 years to try and direct traffic to their website. This is totally unethical and we attribute this to the "sour grapes" by The Council of Sport. We believe they have also mislead some of our readers.

As a direct result we will are uplifting our profile in 2010 as part of our 11 year anniversary and will be extending and promoting to all police and law enforcement agencies our website magazine on a national and overseas level.

Please note all police and law enforcement members can order their Sportzbeat magazine online for free (not a subscription magazine, nor do they have to join us in any monetary shape or form, unlike The Police Council of Sport and The Police Association who all charge annual fees to belong to them) and we will be contacting the appropriate departments encouraging better readership this year and new staff.
