we are not associated, (funded in any way, shape or form with The Council of Sport (nor do they have any sporting publication of any kind as the NZ taxpayer will not pay for it and they charge for membership to their services) or The Police Assossciation (see our about us page for further information:http://policesportz.com/pages/about.html). Please also put that the Council of Sport could not and have not had a domain name but registered www.policesports.org.nz to try and confuse members as they did not have a domain name and our policesportz.com has been registered for 11 years and is a low tactic as any business would not do this. Please aslo note we are not Sportz Beat Media Ltd and that is a false statement made by them to try and confuse the public and they have been repeatedly asked to remove the untrue comments from their site immediately.

About
The 2011 World Police & Fire Games and Memorial Inc. is an established 501c (3), registered not for profit organization. The organization has been given the honor, privilege, and the responsibility to produce these World Police & Fire games. Consisting of New York City Police Officers and Firefighters, the Organization was responsible for organizing, presenting, and winning the bid to host this unprecedented event.
The games will respectfully coincide with the ten year remembrance of September 11, 2001. The 2011 World Police & Fire Games will be empowered by two themes: Remembrance, (We will always remember those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001) and Gratitude. (An opportunity for all New Yorkers to thank the world for the support that flooded into New York City.)
Our Mission:
- Provide the best possible sporting venues combined with world class officiating.
- Integrate the multi-faceted cultural, entertainment, and historical experiences that New York City offers.
- Remember those lost, and express gratitude for support from around the world.
The World Police & Fire Games are currently the second largest multi sport event in the world, surpassed only by the summer Olympics. Our goal is to make these games the largest, most memorable sporting event the world has ever seen.
History of the World Police & Fire Games
The concept to promote sport and fraternity within the Police and Firefighting communities began in 1967, with the staging of the first ever California Police Olympics. This concept continued to grow and culminated in 1983, with the creation of the World Police & Fire Games Federation. The first World Games were held in 1985, in San Jose, California, attracting almost 5,000 competitors. Held biennially, the games have been hosted by numerous countries throughout the world, attracting as many as 8,000 world class athletes from over 70 countries. A total of 46 core sports are standard, ranging from angling to wrist wrestling. Additionally there are 24 optional sports that help to meet the requirements of 65 total sports. Each ten day event begins with a grand opening ceremony, and continues with numerous planned social events and a memorial service spread throughout the week. The festivities culminate with the passing of the flag to the following host at the closing ceremony.
The board of the World Police & Fire Games Federation are drawn from active and retired members of the law enforcement and firefighting communities. The mission of the organization is to create community interaction and awareness, educate children on the benefits of sport, and develop camaraderie between members of the emergency services from around the world. In an effort to develop a better rapport with the local community, all host cities are required to create and implement a legacy program that will leave a lasting, positive impact, upon the community they serve.
Since the first games in 1985, attendance has continued to grow, world records have been broken, and lasting friendships forged. Sport and friendly competition, as expressed through the World Police & Fire Games, has the ability to overcome national boundaries and political ideals, replacing it with a camaraderie that has no borders.

The 2011 Games will provide a way to Celebrate Humanity through Sport as we join together during this historic time in our city.
It takes a lot more than a village to produce an event of this magnitude. Contributions that you can make are not always measured in monetary figures. We are looking for individuals who are willing to donate their time as volunteers. These individuals are the ones who become the face of the games and make our event shine. You can contribute to the success of our event by competing in one of our 65 sports. Competition is what makes our games thrive and challenges our athletes to the very edge of their capabilities. Finally, your generosity can also be measured as financial support. By donating to our organization, you will assist in securing the funds necessary to make this event an unparalleled experience for everyone involved.
This is your chance to be a part of history by helping those who have spent their lives helping others. We greatly appreciate your support, regardless of the form or level at which you contribute. Thank you.
